***NJC Press Release***
With rising water prices forcing everyone who has any sized yard at all to look for ways to be more efficient, the Northeastern Junior College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and the Colorado State University Extension Service will hold two upcoming free workshops on ways to be more water conservative.
On Tuesday, February 28, 2012 from 5:30-6:30 in Hays Student Center, Room 230 those attending will see a presentation on Xeriscaping. This tactic can be utilized to not only beautify your yard, but also help to conserve water and lower your water bill.
On Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 5:30-6:30 in the Tennant Art Gallery in the Hays Student Center, SIFE and CSU will provide a presentation on ways to take care of your lawn and conserve water in order to save on your water bill. Items to be discussed will include such topics as whether you should aerate or power rake.
According to Amanda Kerker, student advisor for the SIFE Team, the students were interested in helping show ways to not only conserve water, but improve yards. “We are doing these with the help of Brian Kailey from the CSU Extension Office,” she said. “Those who attend have the opportunity to receive a free water audit in order to determine how effective their sprinkler system is working as well as tips on how to utilize the water more effectively.”
For more information or to register for the workshops contact Amanda Kerker at 970-521-6744 or amanda.kerker@njc.edu. SIFE would like those who plan to attend to register so they can prepare handouts and room seating.
