The post where I explain why I hate Facebook today...

Ok, so here goes...I normally don't post personal type stuff here, but I think this required a response.

Today, while surfing Facebook, I was blocked from liking posts.

Yep, blocked from liking posts on Facebook.  Now here is the scenario...

I hadn't been on Facebook for about a day due to work obligations.  I was scrolling through my feed, liking things, and got a warning that I was abusing a feature.  Tempting fate I decided to carry on, continuing to like posts.  The message then popped up that I was abusing the feature, and was blocked from it.  Facebook blocks, for those who may not know, can last hours, days, weeks, etc.  It is arbitrary, and not spelled out anywhere, even when you click into the help center.

So to sum up, I was blocked from using an interaction on a social network from my personal Facebook page.  I was interacting too much.

Here's why I feel this warrants a post...

I also help run a Facebook page for the radio station I work at.  "Fan pages" and "personal pages" are treated differently.  Personal pages are just what they sound like.  Fan pages are treated as a business, and this is where Facebook tries to make money off of users, offering to "boost posts" by charging money.  On a fan page your post isn't seen by everyone who has liked your page.  The percentage varies, based on...you guessed it...interactions.  So by banning me from liking posts, Facebook is effectively hurting fan pages.

Conspiracy theory time...

This wasn't a mistake.  Facebook has realized that they can limit fan page views more by banning people from interacting naturally with the pages they have chosen to like.  The natural interactions boost page views, limiting the amount Facebook can make.  Limit natural interactions, limit page views for fan pages, make more money.  Yet another reason to hate Facebook.
