Sterling Police Department Press Release
At approximately 2:30pm, February 15, 2011, Sterling Police responded to the Northeastern Junior College (NJC) campus on a report of gunshots. The report indicated numerous shots had been fired in the parking lot adjacent to Herboldshelmer Hall, located on the northeast corner of the main campus.
A number of NJC students were contacted in the parking lot. Officers were able to determine the sounds reported were not gunshots, but were actually fireworks being shot off, by several students.
Four (4) students were cited and released for violation of City Code 12-8, Discharge of Explosive Devices (fireworks). The students cited are identified as:
Mitchell Jergensen, age 20
John Price IV, age 22
Dustyn Cope, age 19
Dillon Sanders, age 18
