In order to win any of these awards, aside from earning the required grade point average, these student athletes had to also complete for at least three full-time semesters. They had to complete a minimum of 45 semester credit hours or four full-time quarters and a minimum of 60 quarter credit hours of college work. The athletes had to participate in at least one season at the varsity level at the college from which he/she is nominated and had to be nominated during the academic year in which participation occurred. When the final grade point average was calculated, all course hours attempted had to be included with the exception of remedial/development course work, which could not be used to meet the requirements for these awards.

Northeastern takes great pride in emphasizing to its athletes that they are first and foremost students and that academics always needs to be their highest priority. Coaches look for student athletes who will also be strong in the classroom.
