Take home pottery bowls or
mugs made by NJC students
The Annual Chili Arts Festival,
hosted by the Northeastern Patrons of the Arts Society, will be Saturday, April
28, 2012. It will be held in the Hays Student Center Ballroom at 6:00 p.m. Now
in its fourth year, this event features art work and performances by students at
Northeastern Junior College (NJC).
Art work by visual art students
will be on display throughout the ballroom. A few students will be creating
paintings and drawings during the event. A ceramicist will be working at the
pottery wheel so guests can see how the pottery pieces are made. In addition, a
slide show will run featuring the work of graphic design students. In addition,
the tickets and program will have been created by students in our graphic design
classes.
A concert will feature music,
theater, and creative writing students. Original poetry will be read and the
music performances promise to be varied and exciting. A film score debut and
flamenco guitar solo are among the acts. An appearance by the NJC Comedy Improv
group is also planned. Even the sound system and stage crew will be made up of
students from the recording class.
A new addition to the event will
be a short auction to sell some custom pieces of art created by faculty and
students. Even the auctioneer for the evening is an NJC student. Jake Troutt is
a current member of the NJC Livestock Judging Team and has graciously agreed to
be our auctioneer for the evening. Trout, of Idaho, comes from a very
established auctioneering family in that part of the country. He recently took
the auctioneering class offered by NJC and taught by seasoned pro John Korrey of
Iliff.
While guests take in all of the
amazing arts on display and being performed, they will enjoy dinner as well. A
traditional chili dinner will be served. There will be two types of chili to
please all tastes. A fairly tame, traditional chili will be served for those
that like a mellow bowl and a firehouse chili will also be offered to those who
have no fear of the culinary unknown! If the mere mention of chili makes you
reach for a bottle of antacid, there will be a gourmet version of chicken noodle
soup.
In addition to dinner and a
concert, the purchase of a ticket entitles adult guests to take home a custom
piece of pottery. In the past, the event offered a large selection of bowls.
This year, mugs will be available in addition to the bowls.
Tickets for adults are $18.00 and
include dinner and a custom pottery bowl or mug. Children ages four through 12
are $8.00 for dinner only and children three and under eat free. An RSVP is
required by Monday, April 23rd. Tickets can be purchased in advance
or reservations can be made with Sandy Kester in the Liberal Arts office in ES
French Hall. Her number is (970) 521-6671 or you can e-mail her at sandy.kester@njc.edu.
