During its
69th annual commencement ceremonies, Northeastern Junior College recognized a
number of graduates with special end of year honorary awards and announced
scholarships going to those students planning to transfer on to pursue advanced
degrees.
The
Charles F. Poole Award, a commencement award given to graduates who are
scholastically class leaders, have attended NJC continuously and contributed to
campus activities was presented to Brooke Zuege of Wray and Victoria Vorwald of
Sterling. Zuege received an associate of arts degree in elementary education.
Vorwald completed an associate of science with focus on
pre-medicine.
The
Armilda W. Dowis Award, a commencement award given to outstanding graduates in
an occupational program who have attended NJC continuously was presented
to
Samantha
Cavagnetto of Hartsel, CO who completed an associate of applied science degree
in equine management and to Lauren Jayne Mertens of New Raymer, receiving as
associate of general studies in agri-business.
The Bruce
Gill Memorial Scholarship, awarded to an NJC graduate displaying leadership and
scholarship went to Kaitlin Hietala of Ridgeway, CO who will transfer on to
Colorado State University. The Thomas Porter Memorial Scholarship went to Julia
Cucarola of Sterling, who also transfers on to Colorado State University. The
Keith Propst Memorial Scholarship went to Geoff Mills of Vona who also plans on
transferring to Colorado State University. The Panhellicnic Scholarship went to
Jaiden Potter of Haxtun who will attend the university of Nebraska-Kearney. The
Johnson & Associates, CPA, P.C. Accounting Scholarship went to Kara
Lanckreit of Julesburg who will be transferring to Colorado State University.
An additional 42
scholarships were declared by graduates including the following awards: Julia
