BRUSH, Colo. (July 12, 2012) – Do you have an hour to save two
lives? Donate blood at the East Morgan County Hospital blood drive on Thursday,
August 2. Anyone can be a donor. Demand for blood always increases during the
summer months.
The North Colorado Medical
Center Mobile Blood Bank will be on site in the south parking lot, Thursday,
August 2 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to draw blood. To schedule an appointment
call 842-6257, appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcomed.
In less than an hour your blood donation can save up to two lives. Blood
cannot be manufactured; therefore, donors are needed to increase the blood
bank’s inventory. A donation is one pint (two cups) of blood. In
2010, NCMC blood donor center sent 348 units of blood for patient care, in 2011
there were 336 units sent for patient care and through April 2012 a total of
133 units have been sent.
“The donated units will go into inventory and
are used for our patients,” said Cindy Nestor, EMCH laboratory manager. “On
average one patient transfusion requires two units.”
“Donating blood gives back to our community
and helps our patients when a transfusion is needed,” said Nestor. This opportunity is open to the public, new
donors are always welcomed.
If you are going to donate
blood, please remember to drink plenty of water and eat. All donors need to
bring a driver’s license or a photo I.D. with date of birth.
