22 recent hires and some
part-time employees moved to full-time

Northeastern Junior College has added 22 new staff
members as it opens a new school year. Several of these individuals have been
employed for months now, joining the staff last spring or over the summer.
However, all of these individuals were finally formally introduced to their
colleagues at the college’s in-service held last week.
Three new teachers have joined the Northeastern Junior
College (NJC) faculty this fall. Lyn Miller, formerly a teacher at Chadron State
College is a new full-time welding instructor and will be overseeing the
development of a new welding certificate and degree program. Dave Wagner brings
an impressive list of credentials to campus as the new director of the art
program and as the gallery curator. Jolene Buss has taken the role of Health
Occupations Students of America (HOSA) advisor and will teach secondary health
science classes.
In
addition, five other instructors, who had part-time roles have returned this
fall in full-time slots. Jeff Schiel who has taught at NJC in several
disciplines, officially formalizes his relationship with the college by coming
on as a full-time general social sciences instructor. Jimmy Atencio, who
temporarily taught some for the diesel technology program last year returns this
fall again, taking on a full-time faculty role. Yvonne Avila, Cathy Fisher and
Leslie Helfer, all teachers in the GED/Family Literacy program have been moved
from part-time to full-time positions in that area.
Rory Barrett is a new hall director, overseeing the
student housing units on the east side of campus. Yonas Hagos is also a new hall
director, taking care of the housing units on the west side. Bo Beardsley has
been name the supervisor of the Bank of Colorado Event Center. Kristine Campo is
the head women’s softball coach. She was previously an assistant coach last
season. Robert “Bobby” Ratterree is an Assistant Hall Director and the new
assistant women’s basketball coach.
Cynthia Hofmeiser was named the college’s new grant
writer last spring.
Well-known local Alexes Ertle is the new administrative
assistant in the nursing area. Pamela Mason is also a new administrative
assistant serving both the science and athletic areas. Kathy Bright is a new
custodian on campus. Bob Thompson returns to NJC as a custodian as does Krista
Johnson. Johnson is once again assigned to the Bank of Colorado Event Center.
In
student services, former, local student leader Megan Moreno who completed her
bachelor’s degree at UNC, comes back to the college as the assistant registrar;
another former student and athlete, Ashley Unrein, who joined the college staff
last spring, was recently moved from the assistant registrar position into the
assistant financial aid director position. Snow Mekelburg is the college’s new
accounting technician and will act as cashier in student services. Karen Urrutia
is a new sales assistant in the NJC Book Store. Gerard Torres joins the
NJC team as a new Latino Education Achievement Recruitment Network (LEARN)
Coordinator.
Johnathon Moore has been named food and beverage manager
for the Plainsman Grill and James Bowey is the interim golf course supervisor at
Northeastern 18.
