Fort Morgan Porch Light Information

Fort Morgan residents whose porch lights are not working properly should call the city’s Light & Power Department first.

Most homes in the city have free front porch lights, which are wired to a separate circuit that provides power to the light at no cost to the resident. This is a program that dates back to the early days of Fort Morgan when the city’s electric utility was first established.

The electric department will repair these lights for free if problems arise, and Light & Power Superintendent Doug Linton encourages people to call him instead of an electrician.

“I’m just worried about my customers getting charged for a service call when we can fix the light at no charge,” Linton said. “A lot of these people are on fixed incomes.”

Linton said the majority of the homes in the city have the free porch lights, although some newer homes may not if the free light was not requested when the residence was built. If residents have any questions about whether their front porch light is a part of the city’s program, they can call the city’s Utility Billing Department at 867-4350.
