Child Dies in Sterling Fire

On January 13, 2014, at approximately 7:29 PM, Sterling Police and the Sterling Fire Department responded to 125 State Street, Sterling in reference to a structure fire. Upon arrival the residence was fully engulfed with smoke and flames were present.

Once on scene, responders learned that a two year old boy was still in the residence, as all the other occupants had exited. Firefighters made immediate entry, located the child and removed him from the home. The child was transported to Sterling Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased. An adult male occupant of the home sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the fire.


The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Sterling Police Department and the Sterling Fire Department, in collaboration with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
