NJC to offer newsletter design class this month

***NJC Press Release***

The Extended Studies Department at Northeastern Junior College will be offering a newsletter design class on Tuesday and Thursday evening between April 19th and April 26th. The class will meet four evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Instructor for the class is Barbara Baker, director of marketing services for the college.

It takes good, basic layout design to assure and improve readership of a newsletter that is used to help market a product, service or organization. This course will emphasize fundamentals of good design; how to make the best choices when deciding when and where to place your line-up of editorial content. Students will be get some editing tips which will help them add “pop” to their messages. Those who enroll should plan on learning effective use of font sizes, good use of color, clipart, how to crop and make photos more effective, type fonts that work best for various purposes, and tricks in layout that will make newsletters entertaining and “eye” friendly so the audience happily reads the message when it arrives in the mail.

According to Baker, this is not a beginner class. Students who enroll in this class should already have skills in Publisher or some other layout programs such as Pagemaker or InDesign. The class will utilize Publisher 2007 (not 2010) in the teaching lab. “Preferably, the students will be individuals who already have some experience creating newsletters,” Baker notes. “This class will help them know how to make them even better.”

Cost of this class is $66.11 or $42.04 for Prime Time Learners. Students need to register by April 14 by calling 521-6900.
