Two employees retired from Northeastern
Junior College this year and have been recognized and honored for their years of
service. Dan Cullip and Sue Van Pelt served a combined 29 years of service to
the college.
Dan Cullip was originally hired as a
utility worker in the physical plant in 1998. He was transferred to a custodial
position later that year and had 13 years of continuous service when he retired
in November 2011. Over the years he worked in a variety of buildings on campus,
including Poole Residence Hall, Beede Hamil Hall and Walker Hall.
Sue Van Pelt was hired as a financial aid
loan assistant in December of 1995. Her position was changed to be an entry
level administrative assistant in July of 1997. She was promoted to an
administrative assistant, level two, in 2000 and transferred from the financial
aid office to the document and mail center on campus in 2009 where she worked
until her retirement in March. Van Pelt was an active member of the
Classified Staff employee group on campus, holding various offices and leading a
number of fundraising efforts to fund the Classified Staff Scholarship program.
She served on the Classified Staff Scholarship Committee in choosing recipients
for the scholarship. You often found Van Pelt helping on campus when needed for
college clean-up and beautification days. She was on staff in 1997 when the
student center was flooded and helped with the extensive efforts to dry and
restore student records damaged during that storm. Van Pelt worked to make NJC a
viable site for the College Goal’s Sunday program which is a day set aside each
year for students and parents to be on campus to get help completing the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) financial aid
form.
Van Pelt and her husband, Bill, have
relocated to Fremont, Nebraska.
