Suspicious Incident in Iliff While Child Was Waiting for School Bus

***Logan County Sheriff's Office Press Release***

Iliff, Colorado – On September 17th, 2012, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious incident in Iliff.  Initial information received indicated a 9 year old male was waiting for the school bus outside of his Iliff home.  At approximately 7:35 A.M. a male in a silver van drove up to the boy and told him “come over here.”  The male allegedly repeated this several times and then drove away.

Caliche school officials were notified of the incident.  The suspicious male was described as a white male, having a round face, with brown hair and a black mustache.  The vehicle was described a silver van, with a dent in the rear door.

We are asking for any information that the public may have concerning the male or the vehicle.  Please contact Investigator Mike Archer or Deputy Jason Littlefield regarding the incident.

Important safety tips for parents and children to remember regarding strangers and abductions:

*      Children Should Try To Stay In Groups...
There is strength in numbers. In many cases children have been alone.
*      Take Time To Know Your Surroundings...
*      Be aware that the most dangerous times can be just before and after school.
*      A child should never talk to people they don't know.
*      Walk Away From Streets...
            Children should stay on sidewalks or at least six feet from the street.
*      Stay Away From Cars...
            Children should never approach a car or truck no matter what the occupants say.
*      Yell And Tell...
             If someone grabs a child, the child should scream and yell out                                      "HELP ME -- CALL THE POLICE."
*      Recognize, React, and Report...
           When children think they see danger, they should run and tell an adult immediately.
