Logan County Sheriff News Release
STERLING, COLORADO- On July 8th, 2010, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a critically injured female child. The child, Alexis R. McClain, DOB 2/10/07, was taken to the Sterling Regional Medical Center suffering from physical injuries. Alexis was taken to the Children’s Hospital in Denver and pronounced deceased on July 9th, 2010.
The Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigations, and the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office immediately began an investigation after receiving the initial report on July 8th, 2010, treating the case as a suspicious death.
On July 19th, 2010, a District-Wide Grand Jury indicted GINGER WEEKS, DOB 7/16/76, and MARK WEEKS, DOB 12/21/82, on charges of count one: C.R.S. 18-3-102(1)(f), as amended, MURDER 1 – VICTIM UNDER 12/POSITION OF TRUST, a Class 1 Felony and count two: C.R.S. 18-6-401(1)(a),(7)(a)(I), as amended, CHILD ABUSE – KNOWING/RECKLESS CAUSE DEATH, a Class 2 Felony.
Ginger and Mark Weeks are being held at the Logan County Detention Center without bond.
Ginger Weeks is the step-mother to Alexis McClain, and Mark Weeks is the biological father to Alexis McClain. The reported address for both is 10755 CR 370 in Sterling.
This case remains under active investigation – no further information will be released regarding the case.
