Language classes offered this fall at NJC

NJC Press Release

Sign language and Spanish offer you new communication tools

Registration remains open through Thursday, August 26th for two special language classes that are being offered by Northeastern Junior College’s Extended Studies department this fall. Learners may choose from a sign language class, or a conversational Spanish class. Both classes run simultaneously, on Monday nights, August 30th through October 11th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Prime Time Learners, age 60 and over, are able to enjoy these classes at a significantly lower cost.
The sign language class being taught by Esther Hartsky, provides the student an opportunity to develop a strong grasp of the American Sign Language (ASL) as well as the cultural features of the language. Students are well equipped with printed hand outs that can be used for later reference. This is a very lively and beautiful language and Hartsky’s teaching style makes for a fun learning environment.
Sam Edgar will teach a conversational Spanish class designed to provide the student with the skills necessary to understand and speak the language. You will learn basic vocabulary, grammar and expressions that are used in daily situations and travel. This is a great starter class for someone wanting to learn some basic Spanish to be able to better serve non-English speaking customers, for example.
Cost of either one of these classes is $114.70 for those under age 60. Prime Time Learners may enroll for $66.57.
To get registered for sign language or conversational Spanish, call the Extended Studies office on campus at 521-6900. Be sure you get registered before the August 26th deadline.
