Learn how to preserve loved ones’ stories at NJC seminar

NJC Press Release

Fall is approaching and as the cold weather settles in, there’s no better time to take on special projects. Maybe history is one of your favorite topics and if you have older relatives, now’s a great time to learn about how you can capture and preserve their stories through oral traditions. Having their voice captured along with their stories makes for a priceless keepsake that can be replayed over and over.

Join Jeff Rice and the Northeastern Junior College Extended Studies Department for a one night seminar called, “Oral Traditions: Preserve Your Loved Ones’ Stories”, which will be held on Monday, September 13th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on campus. This class is only $20, making it affordable and available.

According to Rice, “Everyone has a story to tell, whether it’s the hilarious story of how your grandparents met or the remarkable immigration voyage of a favorite uncle.” In this evening seminar, he’ll show you how to collect the oral histories of your loved ones, including how to prepare for your interview, know the right questions to ask and how to really listen in order to have the best outcome at the end of the dialogue.

You must register for this seminar by Thursday, September 9th. Call Jessica Fritzler at 521-6900 to register and get additional details regarding location of the seminar.
