Cindy Carey, a counselor in the
student services division at Northeastern Junior College has been named the 2012
Residents Life Supporter. The annual award, given by the Associated Student
Government, honors an individual on campus who gives of their time, knowledge
and expertise for the overall operation and promotion of student life or student
activities on campus.
Carey’s office is next door to
the student activities office in the student center and almost by osmosis, she
has become a ‘go to’ person for the Associated Student Government officers,
resident assistants in the halls and others who are involved in ongoing student
activity. Carey is staff sponsor for the Students Over Traditional Age group on
campus and she has worked diligently over the years to make sure this category
of students are involved in activities and heard. The SOTA students are now well
represented when decision making is taking place as it relates to the
expenditure of student fees for various activities and events, which are paid by
all students. Carey plays a key role at the beginning of each semester,
overseeing the new student orientation activities on campus and this allows her
to connect with many of the students when they first arrive on campus.
