At its Spring Semester In-Service
activities held last week, Northeastern Junior College introduced 13 new or
recently named employees. These are not new positions, but existing positions
which have been re-filled.
Long time professor in the sciences
department David Coles was named the Faculty Member of the Year for 2012-2013.
The up and coming faculty member receiving the Star Performer Award is Jason
Lichtenwalner, an instructor and coordinator of the college’s fire science
program. Martha Gareis, coordinator of the college’s mail and document center
was honored with the Administrative-Professional-Technical Employee of the Year
Award. These three prestigious awards are made each year by all 13 of the
colleges in the Colorado Community College System. Recipients will be honored
by the system office and peers from all over the state at luncheon events held
in Denver later this spring.
Among those introduced and the
position they now hold were: Dan Clark, Accounting Technician I; James Foley,
Criminal Justice Instructor; Kay Hansberry, Accounting Technician II; Marco
Juarez, Assistant Residence Hall Director and Head Soccer Coach; Tyler Kelsch,
Vice President Administrative Services and Finance; Tracey Knox, Physical Plant
Director; Barbara Lafferty; Administrative Assistant II – Liberal Arts; Charles
Maloney, Chef Manager/Executive Chef at Plainsman Grill; Dawn Saunders,
Administrative Assistant II – Document Center; Connie Tasker, Nursing
Instructor; Randell Von Krosigk, Animal Science Instructor and Head Livestock
Judging Coach; Philip Wilson, Custodian I; and Jason Sauls, Ombudsperson,
part-time.
The Spring Semester In-Service also
included a state of the college message from President Jay Lee, sessions on
social media and how it affects students and learning in the classroom,
recruiting tips for the entire campus, a faculty association meeting, updates on
campus security and safety, and several other training sessions related to the
digital delivery of instruction on campus. This spring’s theme was a play off
the Mayan calendar prediction with the underlying message being a fun spin on
the fact that the world did not end and everyone on campus must get back to
work.
