NJC seminar teaches reading between the lines

NJC Press Release

A totally new class offering comes to northeastern Colorado in October when Jeff Rice teaches students how to read between the lines. Rice will teach a course called “Reading Between the Lines: How to Enjoy More than Just the Story of a Literary Novel.” The class will meet on campus on Thursday evenings beginning October 7th through October 21st from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Over the course of three weeks, those who enroll in this seminar-format class will read Daniel Dafoe’s “Robinson Crusoe” and J.M. Coetzee’s “Foe,” two versions of the same story from vastly different perspectives.

The object of the seminar is to learn how to go beneath the story of a great book and find deeper meaning and life lessons in an author’s work. The instructor will provide a prospective reading list with brief notes on what to look for in each selection of the reading list.

Participants should obtain both books and read “Robinson Crusoe” before the first class meeting on October 7th. Books are: Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel Dafoe, ISBN 0375757325 and Foe, J.M. Coetzee, ISBN 014009623X.

To enroll in this seminar please call Jessica Fritzler at 521-6900 by Tuesday, October 4th. Cost of the seminar is $25 per person.
