Journey Stories International Tea April 30 at the Overland Trail Museum in Sterling

A new date has been set for the Journey Stories International Tea at the Overland Trail Museum in Sterling. The tea, which was to take place last fall, will now take place at the museum in the High Plains Education Center on Wednesday, April 30 at 2 p.m. Seating is limited and tickets are currently available for $12.00 each. Because the main museum is currently closed during construction, please call to reserve your ticket at 522-3895. Once your ticket is reserved, you may pick it up at the front desk at City Hall. Guests at the tea will enjoy a truly global experience including international food, international table décor and access to the Smithsonian exhibition “Journey Stories”. Speaker, Lynne Swanson, will be portraying 19th century traveler/adventurer Isabella Bird. Please call the museum at 522-3895 for more information.

Sterling Public Library December Events

The Library has many holiday events planned in December.  The Library is helping “Sterling Sparkle” with our Parade of Trees.  There are many beautiful trees again this year.  We have had some new volunteers decorating trees.  On Wed., Dec. 4th; Mon., Dec. 9th; Tues., Dec. 17th and Thur., Dec. 19th the Library will be dimming the lights to view the trees.  During the evening we will serve refreshments.

We will host our annual Christmas Tea on Friday, Dec. 13th at 2:00 p.m.  You may begin picking up tickets for the tea on Monday, Dec. 2nd at 9:00 a.m.  This year our entertainment will be provided by Janet Bigler, Tara Edelman and Peggy Lillich.  Janet will be doing two Christmas readings – A Cup of Christmas Tea and the Memory of a Christmas Tea.  Tara Edelen and Peggy Lillich will be providing wonderful holiday music.  Tara plays the flute and will be accompanied by Peggy on the piano.  We have just a few tickets left so stop in and pick up yours soon.

On Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6th and 7th the Friends of the Library will hold their annual, Cookie, Candy and Book Sale.  The Sale will be held in the Library Community Room.  The sale will be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.  The Friends are asking anyone willing to donate cookies or candy to have them at the Library by 9:30 a.m. on Friday if possible.  They will accept donations of goodies at anytime.


On Tuesday, Dec. 10th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. the Recreation Center and Library will host Santa City at Sterling Public Library.  This is a great event for kids of all ages.  Santa will be here to listen to Christmas wishes and parents may take pictures.  This year we ask that parents bring their own equipment for pictures.  There will also be a craft to make, pictures to color, movies, drawings to enter and refreshments.  The NJC Women’s Basketball team will be at Santa City registering people for the chance to win 1 of 24 signed basketballs.

Sterling Public Library Valentine's Day Tea Feb 8

The Sterling Public Library Valentine’s Day tea will be February 8 at 2pm.  Tickets are required and may be picked up beginning January 28.  Space is limited so pick up your ticket early.  The Legendary Ladies will provide the program.  The group provides historically accurate stories of unique women.  The entertainers dress in costume and are a delightful group.  Be sure to bring your own tea cup for the event.

Sterling Public Library Christmas Tea Dec 7


Join us at Sterling Public Library for our Annual Christmas Tea Friday, Dec. 7th at 2:00 p.m. The library staff will host an afternoon tea open to the public. There will be several flavors of tea and all kinds of delicious desserts.

The theme for this year’s tea is An Old Fashioned Country Christmas. Pat Marshall will provide a program on cookie cutters and the Brompton family will sing. It is sure to be a wonderful afternoon.

Tickets will be available beginning Monday Nov. 26th. Pick up your ticket early as space is limited. The tickets are free. Please bring your own favorite tea cup to enjoy the teas.

Tickets On Sale For September Tea At Overland Trail Museum In Sterling

"Love Is In The Air" will be the theme for the 7th Annual September Tea at the Overland Trail Museum, which will take place Thursday, September 13 at 2pm.  This year's tea will feature a wedding theme with displays, entertainment, and food centering around weddings throughout the ages.  Traditional tea fare will include scones, tea sandwiches, a variety of teas, and, of course, wedding cake!  A musical program will be presented by Museum Assistant, Janet Bigler.  The museum will also have on display wedding dresses dating back to the late 1800s.  Guests that would like to display their wedding dress or other wedding memorabilia are encouraged to call the museum.

Tickets are on sale for $10.  Seating is limited and tickets will sell out fast.  Please call the museum at 522-3895 to reserve your spot.  Tickets must be paid for and picked up one week prior to the event.
