Trick or Treat Trail & Food Drive October 31 in Fort Morgan

A Trick or Treat Trail and Food Drive in Fort Morgan for kids 12 and under will be held Thursday, October 31 from 4-6pm on downtown Main Street in Fort Morgan.  After the Trick or Treat Trail head to the Fort Morgan Elks Lodge, 430 State Street in Fort Morgan from 5-7pm for some Halloween fun and games.  Don't forget to stop by City Park in Fort Morgan and drop off a non-perishable food item to donate to the Morgan County Disaster Relief.

 Trick or Treat Street in Wray will be held on Halloween afternoon, Thursday, October 31 beginning at 3:30 and running until 5pm. Area children and their parents are invited to visit local merchants both downtown and across town for a safe start to their Halloween.

Fort Morgan Senior Center Halloween Costume Party Oct 31

The Fort Morgan Senior Center will host a Halloween Costume Party on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m.

Adults ages 55 and over are encouraged to join in an afternoon of games, goodies and music, with prizes for best costume and game winners.

The cost is $3 per person or $5 per couple at the door. Please call 542-3922 or stop by the Senior Center at 110 Sherman Street or the Recreation Center at 528 State Street to register by Oct. 24.

Senior Center hours are Monday through Friday from 8 to 10 a.m. and 1 to 5 p.m.

Sterling Public Library Fright Night October 21

Sterling Public Library will hold Fright Night on October 21st at 6:30 p.m.  Denise Ladd will be sharing fun monster and Halloween stories that are appropriate for all ages.  Following stories the kids will make a monster of their own.  There will be treats for everyone.

Trick-Or-Treat Street in Yuma on Halloween

The West Yuma County Chamber of Commerce will be doing its annual Trick-Or-Treat Street on Halloween from 3:30 to 5:00. Kiddos are welcome to come to Main Street in Yuma where they have a safe place to get safe candy. At 5:00 there will be a kids costume contest with prizes at Bank of Colorado's parking lot in Yuma.

Chamber of Terror Haunted House in Sterling

The Chamber of Terror Haunted House at the Logan County Courthouse Annex will be October 18, 19, 25, 26, and 31.  Times are 6-7pm for the little ones, cost is $5.  7-10pm for the brave souls, cost is $7 in advance or $10 at the door.

Sterling Public Library is providing our Saturday Kids Connection on Saturday, Oct. 12^th  at 2:00 p.m.  The program is for kids in 2^nd through 5^th grade.  This month’s program is Skeletons – Not Just for Halloween.  The group will view a short video on skeletons and use a unique item to create a skeleton.  The program is sure to be lot of fun.

The Brush FFA will be hosting their 2nd Annual Fundraising Haunted House October 29, 30, and 31 from 7-10pm.  Guests are to park in the northeast parking lot (next to the football stadium).  Cost is $5 per entry.

NCHD closes Sterling haunted house due to health hazards

After inspecting the proposed site of a haunted house in Sterling, health officials
from the Northeast Colorado Health Department have determined the facility presents
several health concerns and are prohibiting the use of the building to the general public.

 After receiving a written complaint on Oct. 17 regarding possible health hazards
inside the abandoned hospital building located at 916 S. 7th Ave., staff members from
NCHD conducted a walk-through of the property.   During the inspection several health
hazards were identified, including, but not limited to, materials that have the potential to
contain asbestos, lead-based paint, mold, and animal feces.  Health officials determined
that the deteriorated condition of the building, including peeling paint, falling ceiling tiles,
mold, and crumbled plaster, could present a health hazard to individuals with asthma,
immune compromised individuals, or anyone with a respiratory illness.

 After conducting the inspection yesterday,  NCHD immediately sat down with a
representative from the Sterling Miracle Players, the group that is organizing the haunted
house, recommending that the facility not be used for public access until testing could be
completed to properly identify hazards.  The representative from Sterling Miracle Players
indicated they would proceed with the haunted house, disregarding the
recommendation.  It was decided at that time by NCHD that for the protection of anyone entering the building, the agency would close the facility to public use until further notice,
pursuant to CRS 25-1-506.

 "The last thing we want to do is place any kind of financial burden on a local
organization," said Dr. Tony Cappello, NCHD's district public health administrator.  "We
realize that the Sterling Miracle Players have put a lot of time, effort and money into this
project and our involvement came two days prior to their opening night; but in this
instance, we are more concerned with the health and well being of general public and
children that will enter this unsafe facility."

 According to Dr. Cappello a notice will be placed on the outside doors of the
facility today, indicating its closure to the general public.  

Sterling Recreation Center To Host "Trick Or Treat Street" Halloween Night

The City of Sterling, with the support of over 80 local businesses, is offering a fun and safe alternative to pounding the pavement for treats on Halloween night. On Wednesday, October 31, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Sterling Recreation Center will be passing out treats to all Zombies, Harry Potters, and all the other various costumes that walk through that evening., Admission is free!

This year the Recreation Center’s theme is, “HAUNTED GRAVEYARD.”

Come join the fun at this alternative for trick or treaters. On October 31, the pool will close at 7:30 a.m. and remainder of the building will close at 4:30 p.m. to get ready for Trick or Treat Street.
