City of Sterling to Host NFL Punt, Pass, & Kick Competition August 16

Young Denver Broncos fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when the City of Sterling Recreation Division hosts the free NFL Football and NFL Play 60...Punt, Pass & Kick event on Saturday, August 16th, 2014.

NFL Punt, Pass & Kick is a football competition that allows youngsters to showcase their talents in punting, passing and placekicking with scores based on distance and accuracy.

The free competition is open to boys and girls ages 6-15. Age classification is as of December 31, 2014.

Registration begins at 3:30 on Tiger Field at Sterling High School. The competition will start at 4:00 p.m. Individuals can register online atwww.nflppk.com or pick up a registration form from the Sterling Recreation Center or Pro Sports at Tiger Field on the day of the competition.

No football shoes/cleats/turf shoes are allowed. Only gym shoes (soft sole) will be permitted.

This competition will kick off the Sterling High School football season. They will be hosting a scrimmage “Gatorade Game.” A bottle of Gatorade will be the admission price to the high school game. Those participating in the PPK event will get in to the game free. Pre-game warm-ups will begin at 6:00 p.m. And kick-off is at 7:00 p.m.

The top finishers from each of the five age groups at the Sterling competition will advance to a Sectional competition. Winners at the Sectional competition will have their scores compared with other Sectional champions throughout Colorado with the top five scorers in each age group advancing to the Denver Broncos Team Championship.

Broncos Team Champions will have their scores compared to other Team Champions from around the NFL. The top four scorers in each age group will advance to the National Finals at the AFC Playoff Game.

City of Sterling Kickball League Registration Underway

The City of Sterling Department of Parks, Library, and Recreation is currently accepting team registrations for new fun and recreational, Teen/Adult Kickball Leagues. All participants must be at least 14 years old before participating. An 8 game season will begin August 26 and games will be scheduled on Tuesday evenings at the Pioneer Park softball fields.

Entry Fee

$50 per team, make checks payable to the City of Sterling and must be paid in full before a team is considered entered into a league. Entries are due Monday, August 20.

Division

Open Co-Rec is offered consisting of a 10 person team. Teams must have an equal ration of women to men and teams can play with as few as 6 players.

Officials

Teams will officiate their own games. The Field Supervisor will make the final decision if teams cannot agree.

City of Sterling Adult 4-on-4 Sand Volleyball League Registration Underway

The Department of Parks, Library and Recreation is currently accepting team registrations for a “NEW” Adult “4 on 4” Sand Volleyball Program.  An eight (8) game season will begin June 4th and end July 27th, 2014. Games are played on Wednesday and Friday evenings.  Tournaments are no longer conducted in City Recreational Programs.

ENTRY FEE:  $50.00 PER TEAM.  Make checks payable to the City of Sterling and MUST BE PAID IN FULL BEFORE A TEAM IS CONSIDERED ENTERED INTO A LEAGUE.

Registration is underway for the upcoming City of Sterling, Girls Wildcat Youth Softball Program. The program will go by the participant’s age, not their grade. 

Individual registration forms will be distributed to all RE-1 Valley Schools and are also available at the Sterling Recreation Center, at Hibbits and at the Department of Parks, Library and Recreation Office in City Hall.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE:  This year, you can either register your children using our registration forms or register online. 

1)      To register using a registration form: Forms are available at the Recreation Center, and will be provided to all RE-1 Elementary Schools, Sterling Middle School and other area schools. GIRLS T-BALL DIVISION: is for all girls 5 & 6 years old.  Players must be 5 years old by May 27^th, 2014.  All hitting will be done from a tee.  Participants will be placed on teams by the Recreation Division.

GIRLS STAFF PITCH DIVISION: is for all girls 7 and 8 years old.  Players must be 7 years old by May 27^th, 2014.  The City will provide a staff member to pitch to the players.  Participants will be placed on teams by the Recreation Division.

GIRLS FASTPITCH DIVISIONS: of play are as follows:  9/10, 11/12, 13/14, & 15/16 year olds. A players division is determined by their age as of May 27^th, 2014.  Fastpitch divisions are done by a draft format for all Sterling participants.  Every player that signs up will be selected!  There will be a player skills assessment date TBD at the City Softball Complex. We want all players to participate in the skills assessment.  The draft date TBD at the Sterling Recreation Center.  Pre-season pitcher and catcher clinic dates will be announced.

Big n' Lil Golf Tournament Sept 22 in Ft. Morgan

The inaugural Big n’ Lil Golf Tournament is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at Quail Dunes Golf Course. The tourney will pair one adult (18+ years old) and one junior (17 years old or younger) for nine holes of alternate shot play. The cost of $15 per player includes greens fee, cart, range balls and a meal after play. Adults can play with either one or two juniors, and junior golfers will use tee boxes according to their age and skill level.

Phillips County Event Center in Holyoke Offering Zumba Starting September 3

The Phillips County Event Center will be having Zumba classes starting Tuesday, September 3rd. Classes will be Monday and Friday mornings from 5:30-6:30am and Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions from 5:30-6:30pm. The cost is $5 per class or $30 for an 8 session punch card. The Wray Youth Fall Sports Program registration night will be Wednesday August 21st. The event will take place at Wray City Hall from 5:30-8pm. Public Meeting for a Sterling Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update on Monday, July 29th

The City of Sterling is conducting a Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update, and wants to hear from all community residents, business owners, sports groups, and any other interested parties. We will be hosting Public Meetings on Monday, July 29^th from 12:00 – 1:30pm and also 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm in the Community Room at Sterling Public Library. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

This Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update will provide an analyses of parks, open space, trails, and recreation systems to determine how the current systems effectively serve the community

The City has hired a nationally-known parks and recreation management consulting firm, GreenPlay, LLC, whose home office is in Lafayette, CO, to oversee the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update process. The Sterling Department of Parks, Library, and Recreation is currently accepting team registrations for the Adult Fall Volleyball Program.  The eight game season will begin the week of September 19.

• Co-Rec open played @ Sterling Middle School
